Labor Doulas

Doulas provide physical, education and emotional support? But what does that all mean?

We’re so glad you asked!

Physically – Your doula is physically present during labor. She will utilize her knowledge of physical comfort measures to help ease the discomfort of labor. She will encourage and assist you with positional changes, massage, breathing techniques and more. She will prevent you and your partner from feeling alone and unknowing.

Educationally – Think of your doula as your own personal “birth google” with access to instant information. She is studied and certified in all areas of supporting birth.

Emotionally – Your doula understands the full spectrum of emotions that labor and birth can trigger. She is prepared to help you process those emotions and allow you the space to comfortably experience them as you and your partner transition into parenthood.

You are tired, perhaps a little nervous and ultimately just want to be the most perfect parents on Earth.

Placenta Encapsulation

Placenta Encapsulation for the purpose of ingestion has proven to be tremendously beneficial to the women who have opted to utilize this service. While much of the evidence on the benefits is anecdotal, there has been some research indicating increased milk supply, increased energy levels, a decrease in postpartum bleeding and a decrease in the likelihood of postpartum depression.

Northeast Doulas offers the highest standards in placenta processing. All of our Postpartum Placenta Specialists exclusive process your placenta in your home in order to prevent any possibility of confusion. This ingestible supplement should be exclusive to the individual who birthed it and our opinion is that there is no room for error.

Braxton Hicks Contractions

Braxton hicks contractions may not signify the onset of labor but there is nothing “false” about them. Often referred to as false labor, braxton hicks contractions are your body’s way of preparing for the big day. Unfortunately, they offer no indication of when labor will begin. Some people begin experiencing them randomly during the second trimester, some feel them during the third trimester and some never experience them at all. . . .

The Overstimulated Baby

The overstimulated baby is the baby that gets passed from person to person. The mother seems frustrated and everyone wants to help. First, her friend. “I’ll take the baby. You go relax for a few minutes.” She takes the baby. She brings the sweet crying bundle up on to to her shoulder and she walks. She shhhh’s and she bounces and she walks. She shhhh’s some more and she bounces . . .

The Birth, the Boob & the Baby
