“I am writing to recommend Northeast Doulas, which I used for the birth of both my sons (2 years and 2 months). I interviewed a number of doulas prior to my first delivery looking for the right experience and fit, and ultimately chose Northeast doulas. My 2 births were very different experiences but in both cases I was able to achieve my goal of being fully present through the intense pain of labor and getting as far as I felt comfortable doing without an epidural – largely thanks to my doulas. Both Debbie, who was with me for my first delivery, and Jessica, who was with me for my second, were amazing – strong and supportive – they provided both physical and mental support to me and my husband. I had a lot of anxiety leading up to my first boy’s birth about the labor and delivery process, but Debbie answered my questions and talked me through my birth plan and the practicality of logistics for the “day of” (I live an hour from Mt Sinai where I delivered). On the actual day I felt present all the way through the 23 hour marathon and, unlike some of my friends who did not use a doula, had no regrets about my labor and delivery. My second labor was shorter – 13 hours – but very intense. I could never have made it as far as I did without Jessica, who was with me every step of the way. Not only did Jessica make herself available at the last minute given some unexpected events – she was incredibly thoughtful about the little things – like an in-home follow up after the baby was born.
